Firefly Networks to install WiFi service in Delhi's Karkardooma Court Complex

Delhi’s Karkardooma Court Complex will soon be equipped with WiFi internet access, facilitated by Firefly Networks–a network provider formed through an equal joint venture between Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India

However, the WiFi networks deployed by FireFly is also providing 20 minutes of free Wi-Fi access per day with data limit of 100MB, the report added. We are not sure, if this is an introductory offer pack, or a daily limit applicable to users.

MediaNama has written to both Vodafone and Airtel with the following clarifications and we are yet to hear from them.

-How will the user be charged for internet, or, is a user restricted to a free 100MB data usage per day with a 15-minute validity period?

– If Charges are applicable after the limit, how is the user charged? Are they charged on the basis of data/duration of usage, etc?

-Is the internet access restricted to a limited number of websites, or does it provide an open internet access?

WiFi at Supreme Court: Firefly has already installed WiFi services on the premises of the Supreme Court of India in April last year. At that time, it offered users an option of a complimentary free service offering 20 minutes of free WiFi with a data limit of 100 Mb. After consuming the Complimentary Wi-Fi pack, a subscriber can purchase other WiFi packs i.e. Rs 20 for 30 minutes, Rs 30 for 60 minutes and Rs. 50 for 120 minutes.

Another option allowed Vodafone customers to use their existing 3G pack allowance as validity over the Vodafone Wi-Fi network deployed by Firefly. While, Airtel subscribers were able to connect using their Airtel Internet packs

About Firefly Networks: It was earlier reported that that FireFly was looking to get maximum chunk of the WiFi deployments in NDMC areas of Delhi, besides targeting other state governments’ WiFi plans. The company was incorporated in February last year and has a paid-up capital of Rs 2 crore and an authorized capital of Rs 50 crore, according to data on the registrar of companies.

In January 2015, it received approval from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) for 50% indirect foreign investment and commencement of activities as a Telecom Infrastructure Provider Category-I (IP1).Airtel had also mentioned that it has invested Rs 1 crore in FireFly in June 2014
